The world may cross the point of no return on climate change sooner than we thought. A new study in the journal Climate Dynamics finds that the threshold for dangerous warming will likely be crossed between the years 2027 and 2042. The end point of that range is 10 years sooner than previous estimates… and researchers say it’s a pretty good bet. Their new calculations reduce uncertainties by about half.Â
Taking glucosamine could be just as beneficial to your health as exercise. A study in the Journal of the American Board of Family Medicine finds that people taking glucosamine and chondroitin every day for at least a year have a 39 percent lower risk of death from all causes… And a 65 percent lower risk of death from cardiovascular disease. Researchers suspect glucosamine reduced inflammation in the body.Â
And finally… the key to treating intractable depression may be… mushrooms. A study in the journal JAMA Psychiatry shows that psilocybin, the active ingredient in magic mushrooms, is four times more effective against major depression than traditional antidepressants. Mushrooms are also much quicker to work—two thirds of depressed people taking the drug showed at least a 50 percent reduction in depression after only a week. Meanwhile, another study in the journal Cell details the mechanism psychedelic drugs use to attach to receptor cells—offering the chance to create versions of magic mushrooms and LSD with all the benefits and none of the hallucinations.
