How Gravity Influences Our Genome, The Effects Of Ketamine Therapy, And Can A Diet Cause Dementia? | Medical Notes

Is dementia related to your diet?

New research shows that experiencing food insecurity later in life significantly increases long-term vulnerability to cognitive decline. A study published in The American Journal Of Clinical Nutrition found that adults in both midlife and late life were nearly four times as likely to develop dementia when they didn’t have good access to food. Researchers highlight that government food assistance expansions provide vital cognitive protection for aging populations.

A new treatment could treat brain cancer without the need for open-skull surgery.

A novel surgical laser technique is proving to be an effective, minimally invasive treatment option for patients battling recurrent glioblastoma, which frequently resist conventional surgery and chemotherapy. A clinical trial published in The Journal Of Clinical Oncology evaluated the laser by delivering precise thermal energy directly through a small catheter to cook tumor cells from the inside out. The therapy significantly extended survival in patients with previously untreatable deep-brain tumors.

Ketamine therapy can reshape the brain.

A study published in Translational Psychiatry identified distinct, time-specific shifts in brain network communication following infusion, showing that ketamine temporarily opens neural “floodgates” to restore neuroplasticity and normalize hyperactive depression circuits. Identifying these exact checkpoints enables drug developers to design antidepressants that deliver rapid relief without inducing dissociation.

Does gravity influence our genome?

Removing the constant pull of earth’s gravity offers molecular biologists an unprecedented window into how human cells manage, express, and protect their DNA. A study published in Science Advances, reveals how gravity plays a role in stabilizing physical nuclear structures. These insights are vital for understanding gravity-influenced genetic disorders on earth.
