In the age of technology, we may finally have ‘smart eyes’

Researchers fused soft contact lenses with ocular tech in a new study published in Nature Communications. The novel eye-wear helps identify glaucoma, a disease affecting more than 80 million people. It can blind a person without any warning signs or pain. This technology gathers important information – even during sleep – that help detect glaucoma before it’s too late.

A new way to track cancerous tumors

A recent mice study reveals how a wearable sensor that sticks to the skin can track the changing size of tumors inside the body. The technology then reports the results directly to a smartphone app in real time. The study, which is published in Science Advances, shows how this device can provide a fast and inexpensive way to test to effectiveness of cancer drugs.

An expert reveals how you can stay healthy this holiday season

The CDC reports that 48 million Americans get sick from food poisoning each year. Diane Calello, the medical director of the New Jersey Poison Control Center, says food safety needs to be at the top of everyone’s list this year. She says food poisoning can happen to anyone, but children, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems are more at risk. Remembering to clean your produce and thoroughly cooking raw meat can keep everyone safe.
