Did you know taking certain drugs can reduce the effectiveness of other’s you’re on?

In fact, many people using contraception don’t realize additional medication can weaken their birth control and lead to unintended pregnancies. To increase awareness, researchers have created a computer model that flags dangerous drug combinations. The study appears in the journal Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics.

The steep rise of type 2 diabetes in kids during the pandemic

The pandemic had unsuspecting effects on children. New research in the Journal of Pediatrics shows a steep rise of type 2 diabetes in kids during the Covid-19 pandemic. Though scientists aren’t sure if the virus itself played a part, other factors like virtual learning are thought to be a big culprit. The researchers say these findings show a need for pediatricians to stay on top of screening their patients for type 2 diabetes.

Is our skin biopsy research outdated?

For the procedure, surgeons usually remove a small piece of skin to examine under a microscope. This process can take a few weeks for the patients to receive their results. However, a pilot study published in JAMA Dermatology is testing a novel imaging system that could produce results during the same visit as the biopsy. If approved, this would be the first advancement of the procedure since the late nineteenth century.

Anyone can learn to be creative

Though we tend to think creativity is a skill inherited by birth, new research shows that’s not the case. Conventional thinkers can increase their innovative ideas by practicing ‘emotional reappraisal.’ This means viewing situations through multiple emotional lenses. If one event makes you angry, try to also see how it could be viewed as hopeful. The study is published in the journal Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes.
