Medical Notes: The Anti-Aging Properties Of Psychedelic Mushrooms, How Sleep Is Linked To Migraines, And The Exercise-For-Happiness Myth.

You should sleep more to ease your headaches.

Migraines can be debilitating – causing nausea, vomiting, and extreme pain. These patients have poor sleep quality, which could be worsening their headaches. Sleep deprivation reduces the brain’s ability to manage pain, causing scientists to believe that sleep is directly linked to migraine frequency and severity. The research is published in the journal Cephalalgia.

Should you swap your morning coffee for magic mushrooms?

New research in the journal Aging has revealed that psilocin, a byproduct of consuming psilocybin, extends the lifespan of human skin and lung cells by more than 50 percent. In mice models, the animals showed a 30 percent increase in survival and had improved fur quality and hair regrowth. Researchers think this finding could revolutionize the anti-aging industry.

Does exercise always make you happier?

While being active is often a good way to boost mental health, this isn’t just a response to burning calories. Research in Medicine And Science In Sports And Exercise shows that context matters. Going on a walk with a friend is more likely to boost your mood than missing the game-winning shot at a soccer match. The researchers say it’s not just the activity that matters … the setting, meaning, and overall experience have an equal, if not greater, impact.

You may be more extroverted than you think.

Scientists have found that as people get better at handling stress, they become more open to new experiences. Research in the journal Psychology And Aging followed two thousand people over 18 years. They found that your personality predicts how well you deal with daily stressors. Those who are unable to find a good balance are more introverted, closed off, and not as nice.
