About 10 percent of people will have a kidney stone at some point in their lives. When it happens, doctors may want to check for osteoporosis, too. A study in the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research finds that when people with a kidney stone are checked for osteoporosis… about a quarter of them could be diagnosed with bone loss or a fracture. Researchers say the findings support giving bone density scans routinely to kidney stone patients.
Here’s more evidence that a vitamin D deficiency may leave you more susceptible to Covid. Spanish scientists report in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism that they tested one hospital’s Covid patients…and found that 80 percent were vitamin D deficient. A larger study shows that people with low levels of vitamin d are also more likely to test positive for Covid-19 compared to people with normal vitamin D levels.
And finally… a lot of people take a probiotic to improve their gut health, but a new study in the Journal of Nutrition suggests… try avocados instead. Scientists added a daily avocado to the diets of a group of people… and found they had an increase in beneficial intestinal bacterial. Research subjects also ate less… and lost more weight.
