Will 2024 be the year of cancer?
The American Cancer Society’s annual cancer statistics report estimates that the U.S. will have more than two million new cases this year. The trend is expected to include breast, kidney, and pancreatic cancers, and we’ll also see a rise of cases in young people. Your bathroom habits could be causing more health problems
Irritable bowel syndrome causes bloating, cramping, and pain, but it could lead to other issues. A study in the journal Biomedicines found that patients with IBS are five times more likely to have a chronic musculoskeletal pain called fibromyalgia. These patients also have a higher risk of developing chronic fatigue syndrome. Early detection of these additional conditions is a huge value to finding effective treatment strategies. Is Parkinson’s disease getting a marketing makeover?
The condition is notoriously complicated. Some forms are caused by genetics, while others have an environmental factor – not to mention the wide range of symptoms. Because of this, scientists have requested a new way to classify Parkinson’s for research purposes. In a paper published in the The Lancet Neurology, their model, called ‘synergy’, aims to classify Parkinson’s based on its biology instead of a clinical diagnosis.
