AI outperforms expert humans in brain surgery instruction
Is artificial intelligence replacing the teachers of America? Not quite, but a new report shows that AI tutoring systems can outperform even expert human instructors. Research published in JAMA Network Open studied how an AI tutor taught students surgical techniques for virtual brain tumor removal on a simulator. The group with the AI worked faster and had a 36% better performance rate than the students who listened to remote, human instructors. (McGill University).
Brain scans of children with ADHD only modestly different vs. unaffected peers
A new study finds ADHD isn’t only a biological disorder. Research in The Lancet Psychiatry shows that there isn’t much difference between the brain scans of children with ADHD and kids without. Scientists found only 11 significant differences out of 79 brain measures. This research opposes smaller studies that show more brain differences between children who have ADHD and those who don’t. More comprehensive sex ed reduced teen birth rates
And finally, the right education could decrease teenage pregnancy. New research in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences shows that abstinence-only programs aren’t effective at reducing teen pregnancy. Scientists found that a more comprehensive sex education actually led to more than a 3% drop in teen birth rates nationwide. (NYU).
