Medical Notes: How To Store Body Fat More Effectively, The Power Of Hope, And The Blood Test That Diagnoses Brain Cancer

Published: October 9, 2024 by RHJ Producer

We’re diagnosing brain cancer quicker than ever before.

Glioblastoma is a fast-growing, incurable tumor with an average survival rate of 12 to 18 months. Every moment counts for these patients, and scientists have now created a device that can diagnose the cancer in less than an hour. The technology, showcased in the journal Communications Biology, uses a bio-chip that can detect markers found in a blood test.

All body fat is created equal, right?… Not Quite.

New research in Nature Metabolism reveals that long-time exercisers have healthier belly fat tissue than non-exercisers. They can also store fat more effectively for their health. The study compared two groups of adults with obesity, one with regularly active people, and one where no one worked out. The active group was more likely to store fat just under the skin instead of around organs, which is much more harmful.

Should you meditate when you’re stressed?

Mindfulness helps focus your attention and keeps you in the present, but researchers think it may not be the best option to de-stress. Instead, being hopeful helps people look to the future and stop dwelling on their anxious thoughts. The research, published in the journal Stress And Health, reveals that feelings of hope are more connected to happiness than being mindful.

Got neck pain? It’s probably because of your phone.

A new study shows that the pain comes from continuous neck exertions that cause muscle fatigue, which exaggerate the cervical spine curvature. Though these are subtle movements, they can cause major mobility issues. The findings are published in the Proceedings Of The National Academy Of Sciences.
