The Link Between Obesity and Cancer

You are here: Home / Archive / Feature Stories / The Link Between Obesity and Cancer
Published: January 16, 2022 by RHJ Producer

Studies are finding that obesity significantly increases a person’s risk for a variety of cancers. However, not all forms of fat carry equal risk. Dr. Anthony Perre, chief of the Department of Outpatient Medicine at Cancer Treatment Centers of America, discusses who is more at risk and why.

Tobacco is the top cause of preventable cancer in the United States, but that could change in the next five to 10 years.

Dr. Perre is also an advocate for increasing public awareness and education about obesity and cancer risk. He says the two are related. And as almost everyone knows, America’s weight problem is getting worse. That means there’s an increasing percentage of the American population whose weight may raise their risk for cancer.
