Most of what we’ve heard about delays at the Postal Service have had to do with the election… but delays could also keep millions of people from getting their medications. An analysis of data from the National Poll on Healthy Aging by the University of Michigan shows that about a quarter of people age 50 to 80 receive at least one prescription by mail. Thirty-five percent of that segment say they have no choice—their insurance requires them to get their medications by mail. Nearly 17 percent of 50 to 80 years olds get all their prescriptions by mail.
Most proposed solutions to the plastic waste problem focus on packaging materials, bottles and plastic bags. But a new study in the journal Environmental Research Letters finds that two-thirds of the plastic waste in the United States comes from other things like electronics, consumer products and cars. The new study concludes that two-thirds of all plastics wind up buried in landfills and the amount we recycle is worse than previous estimates—only eight percent.
And finally… if bosses want to curb fraud and unethical behavior among employees, encourage them to put up family photos at work. A study in the journal Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes shows that much less likely to over-report earnings, pad expense reports or engage in other bad behavior if they have their loved ones, so to speak, watching over their shoulder.
