Osteochondritis Dissecans, also known as OCD, is a painful joint condition that’s becoming more prevalent in young kids. Our expert this week breaks down what causes OCD in young athletes and how better research is improving diagnosis and treatment.

While the condition is still uncommon, it’s being diagnosed much more today than in the past. And though it was primarily diagnosed in boys, Dr. Mininder Kocher says he’s now seeing just as many female patients.
Unfortunately, catching it at a later stage makes treatment more difficult. With an early diagnosis, Kocher says there’s a much simpler healing approach. The child immediately stops their physical activity and is put into physical therapy.
