Reed Pence
Creator & Former Host of Radio Health Journal
Reed has been reporting on medicine since 1983, when he became host/producer of the Associated Press Radio Network’s daily health feature. From its inception in 1992 until 2022, Pence was host and lead producer of the nationally-syndicated weekly public affairs program Radio Health Journal. After 30 years in that role, Pence made the decision to pass on his knowledge and legacy to the program’s new lead producer, Kristen Farrah. He remained a host of the program until February 2023.
Reed’s expertise has won numerous local and national awards. He was part of a team sharing the National Award for Enterprise Reporting from the Associated Press and is a seven-time winner of the Peter Lisagor Award from the Chicago Headline Club. Reed is a Kappa Tau Alpha honors graduate of Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism.
